Bahama Holidays
The Flemings have sailed No Worries with us before in the BVIs and they were quickly comfortable aboard.
Since our sail was fairly slow moving, Addy and Josephine showed their cousins the joy of jumping off the bow, drifting under the boat and catching a rope at the stern. They did it several times and even Nate and Auntie Jo joined in.
Our first anchorage of the Exumas was Iguana Key. It was perfect for evening ocean swimming and rounds of Bananagrams.
In the evenings but also while sailing for hours on end, I have been able to read a lot of books this year. I use goodreads online to keep track of my reading list. My favorite top three would be; I’m Glad my Mom Died, Sandwich and the Salt Path.
December 23rd had us visiting the endangered species of Bahamian Rock Iguanas which like to eat grapes and painted toenails. They were quite friendly and very prehistoric looking.
From here we sailed to Norman Key where Josephine took Queso out on the paddleboard. Next we all changed to have drinks at MacDuffs on land. We invited Rob and Karen from Gnarwhal to join us.
Christmas Eve was another day of ocean fun. The Gnarwhal boys took Nate, Kaj and Ollie out spearfishing. Ollie caught a tiny Lionfish which is an invasive species and doesn’t have any fishing restrictions. We all got a nibble. Nate set up a rope and had all the young adults climbing knots.
From our anchorage we went around the tip of Norman’s to explore a plane wreck. There are many myths about this wreck but most believe the pilot had too much to drink at breakfast and crashed after take off. The island was made famous in the late 1970s and early 1980s as a place for planes to refuel while running drugs from Columbia to the US as part of the Medellin Cartel.
We ended the night with cards, games of Bullshit and hopes that Santa would visit that night.
