Christmas and beyond

Merry Christmas on the boat. I didn’t capture the stocking or gift openings but everyone was visited by Santa. The day was enjoyed outdoors exploring the mangrove streams at Shrouds key. They are full of fish, turtles and perfect to snorkel. The dingy had to be maneuvered to the deepest sections. The “stream” went all the way to the other side of the island and there was a stunning beach with some cliffs. This area is known to be the lookout for the DEA in the 1980s who were watching the drug traffic at neighboring Norman’s Cay.

The rest of the day was spent sailing to Staniel Cay and the conditions were calm.

We anchored at Staniel Cay and were excited to head to shore the next day where one can pet the nurse sharks which swim regularly at the dock because of a fish cleaning station. Below you can see Addy with sharks.

We all gathered for a big lunch and at the yacht club. The atmosphere is much better than the food, but a must stop. There is a whole wall covered with black and white photos of Sean Connery while he was filming “Thunderball.” Nate and I also like to squish Addy with hugs whenever possible because she is missed while away at college.

After explore the grotto via snorkel and dinner on board, many went back to the yacht club to play some pool.

December 27th started with an island walk to tire out Queso and get a feel of the local life. I always get excited to see the town school, especially when there are students in attendance.

Everyone pitched in helped to shine the stainless steal on the boat. It went so fast with eight people. Ollie also went up the mast to check on a light for Nate. He went to the tippy top and was not even scared!

After all the hard work we ventured to Pig Beach to see the famous swimming pigs. We have corn husks to share with them. The pigs will swim out to your boat to be fed and you can also walk on the beach with them. They have a rainwater tank and are completely wild (minus the food from tourists).
