Waiting in Beaufort
Upon arriving in Beaufort, North Carolina we had to wait out more weather and stayed on the dock for four days. None of us complained too much as we all needed to recover from our passage around Cape Hatteras. Though we did have the looming deadline of Addy’s arrival for Thanksgiving break.
We tested out the washing machine finally. The hose is not installed in it’s final location so when in use, we have to stick it outside the window. Not ideal but it gets the job done until Nate can do the final plumbing.
I also started the paperwork for sailing to the Bahamas with Queso. We ended up hiring a pet permit broker which was recommended by many cruisers. The broker helped with all the paperwork and we had to wait for 48 hours before our departure from Florida to Bahamas to get a vet health certificate. Interestingly the Bahamas does not allow certain breeds:
I organized, stored and cleaned one of the cabins that had been an catch all for months. This is where Addy will stay on her visit. Here are the before and after pictures.
When Josephine does not clean up after herself, Nate enjoys creating consequences. This time he constructed a booby trap with her mess:
The dock had two courtesy cars for use which we used to visit the grocery store, pharmacy and marine store. This CRV had been around!
We changed Addy’s ticket to Wilmington and sailed a LONG day from Beaufort. The temps were COLD but we rugged up and took turns at the helm. Her plane landed at midnight allowing us to get her just in the nick of time.
Before Addy’s arrival she had been busy studying, rowing and doing her college thing.
