South bound

After a wonderful time in Boston we needed to find some warmth and started our journey South. If the weather had been warm I am sure we would have stayed longer. The abundance of friends and familiarity of the area was comforting after months of hopping from new spot to new spot.

We landed in Onset after passing through the Cape Cod canal. The highlight of this anchorage was a town park on an island. We took the dinghy to the little dock and had the whole place to ourselves which meant Queso could be off leash. He wanted to find dead crabs and other goodies ashore. There were a few other anchored boat (including this mustache boat) but mostly this town was sleepy.

The next day we sailed to Woods Hole. This town is amazing with old traditional New England houses of wood shingles and a range of boats varying from research, pleasure, house and fishing. There is a HUGE scientific community here; NOAA Fisheries, Oceanographic Institution, Woodwell Climate Research, USGS Marine and Coastal Science, and many colleges have programs here such as MIT and University of Chicago.

We were able to meet up with our high school friend Allison and her daughter. It was great fun to show them the boat and take a walk around town where Allison works. She is a Fishery Biologist at NOAA and gave us an inside scoop on all the local activity. She is a long time Cape Cod resident and has extensive knowledge on the health of the whale populations. Another town that I think I would enjoy residing. Allison also got excellent footage of us zooming across bay in the dinghy with Queso barking his head off. I have not been successful in uploading videos on this platform - see Facebook for videos. I am not sure which is better, the video or seeing Allison hanging out of her top floor office window to get the said video.

Meanwhile Addy was waking at 5a for rowing and making friendships full of outdoor goodness.
