Boston - part II

While in Boston we had a chance to clean up our living space. Everyone spends the most time in the saloon and galley with the temperatures so cold.

Josephine and I had brunch with my longtime friend Jenn in Quincy. We have known each other over 34 years! She lives in Brookline with her family and catching up was wonderful.

Nate’s rowing buddy Art joined us for a sunny morning sail around the Boston Harbor Islands. Catching up with old friends is such a treat, especially when they are just as funny and full of enthusiasm as you remembered them. Art lives in Arlington with his family and continues to cycle intense miles year long.

Nate continued to work on hooking up our washing machine.

Our boat was at the end of the dock at the Hingham Marina with a locked gate. This means Queso had daily runs down the dock and would travel to the end of each finger dock crunching on leftover shells dropped by seagulls.

Josephine and Nate traveled to Tufts to walk the campus and have lunch with Nate’s former student who is now a freshman there. They took the T there and then the Hingham ferry back. While they were at Tufts I went to Quincy Adams National Historic Park. It was a lovely sunny day to eat lunch in the garden planted 200 years ago - some of the hedges have been preserved. I especially enjoyed the history of Abigail Adams and her letters to President Adams reminding him to “remember the ladies” when writing new laws.

Before we left the area I made sure to get to Duxbury. I grew up visiting my grandparents here every summer, then lived here for a semester right before transferring to Boston University and I still keep the weather on my list of iPhone weather. I first visited with Sara (who I met during college) and Ed. Sara is true Duxbury local who was born here. We went for a walk together on the “big beach” and got caught up on life. We had such a great time that the photo I got was a cool skull on the beach.

Then I went to pay my respects to Gram and Chan. I always bring a shell or seaglass to leave. My middle name Channing is from my grandfather. I miss them everyday. I wear Gram’s wedding band everyday and wish we could still gather together.
