Part III - Summer Before we Sail

While we were busy sailing, the girls were living it up at home in Oklahoma with a roadtrip to Salida (Colorado), 7-11 celebrations, rowing training, horse riding, dog walking, working at barn and tack cleaning with friends.

Light in the Chesapeake Bay

We were relieved to have finally entered the Chesapeake Bay! These lighthouses greeted us all the way. This meant we were in the final stretch, were ready for a rest and anxious to get home to the girls despite all the house moving items that awaited our arrival. Deltaville was a favorite anchorage in Virginia. This well protected spot allowed us to finally cool off in the ocean and the Tap and Raw Bar at the marina allowed us to dinghy up for dinner.

No Worries berth in Pier 7 Resort and Marina

Arrived! We had a slip at Pier 7 Marina in Edgewater, MD. Nate did a great job squeezing into our spot under the watchful eyes of three other boaters. Luckily all the on lookers were helpful and assisted with ropes and fenders. The ropes are interesting here because you have to tie to the posts due to the high fluctuations of tide daily.

Nate was nervous to leave the boat but we befriended the owners of a neighboring boat who promised to keep tabs on our lines and the marina employees did daily checks. When we got on our plane out of Baltimore I remember thinking, flying is so easy because all I do is show up. We didn’t have to man the helm, check the weather, plot a course, keep lookout for vessels or hazards.
