Into the Night

On November 7th we left Port Washington and sailed back down the East River. Queso claimed his usual spot on the bow and roof which caused waves from tourist boats and folks walking along the waterfront. I still got a kick out of passing by the UN and other famous landmarks even though this was our second time.

From New York we continued through the day passing New Jersey and watching the sunset. It was an all night passage with a full moon to get to past Delaware and arrive the next day in Chincoteague, VA the next day.

I have always wanted to visit Chincoteague since reading Marguerite Henry’s novel Misty of Chincoteague as a child. The area is now a National seashore. The annual swim of wild ponies from the Assateague Island to Chincoteague is held every July.

My desire was to visit Assateague but we were unable to visit as the current in the anchorage was very strong causing us to drag and move to a new location. Then when we went ashore for a run in the late afternoon, Queso jumped onto the trash bag that was in the dinghy and sliced his paw pad on the lid of a tin can. There was lots of blood but he did not appear to be in much pain. We wrapped his paw and called Dr Thompson for advice. We decided to wait until we got to Norfolk to visit a vet. We did have a lovely sunset, did some yoga and even worked on a boat project.

Josephine definitely enjoyed her break from the boat with friends, horses and football. Her cabin waited for her return.
